At least two people die after the shipwreck by speedboat in Santa Catarina this Friday, 14th. The assessment is that the intense winds that hit the coastal region would have caused the sea to shake. According to Lieutenant José Schuelter, from the Fire Department, two victims were in the highest degree of drowning. “During the search, two victims were located in grade six, for cardiorespiratory arrest. They were approximately 300 meters from the vessel. Both died, cardiopulmonary resuscitation was not possible,” he said. A young man is still missing. Searches began immediately after the speedboat capsized. According to the Fire Department, the six people on the boat were from the same family, from Caçador, in the middle west of Santa Catarina, and would be on vacation in Laguna, in the south of the state.
The shipwreck site is a very rough sea point, close to the bar channel. The search for the missing person continues into the weekend. The Brazilian Navy will open an investigation into the cause of the accident and deaths. The mayor of Laguna, Samir Ahmad, regretted the accident and canceled the opening of sports arenas in the municipality. The event would have the participation of the governor, Carlos Moisés, who regretted the accident and wished strength for the family.
