The proliferation of forest fires is worrying

The Secretary of Control and Environmental Monitoring of the Nation, Sergio Federovisky, expressed this Friday his concern about the forest fires that are registered in various regions of Argentina and warned that “we are going through a very adverse season from the climatic point of view”.

Drought, water emergency and heat wave

“We carry two consecutive years of drought, a water emergency declared by the Government in the middle of last year in the Paraná River basin, Limay and in other provinces, in addition to a persistent heat wave that has worsened these days,” said the official.

He recalled that faced with this scenario, President Alberto Fernández decreed the fire emergency “to be able to have extraordinary resources to face this season”.

What places are burning?

“Right now the situation is relatively calm, with a very important igneous focus that still persists in the south of Bariloche, in the area of lakes Martín and Steffen, since the end of last year without being able to be completely controlled,” he specified.

In addition, the biologist and journalist stressed that there are outbreaks in other provinces, “which shows the gravity of the situation, since it is not normally a fire season for the Littoral provinces and yet we have fires in currents, Between rivers The Missions“.

Meanwhile, the National Fire Management Service (SNMF) reported active outbreaks in the provinces of Chubut, Buenos Aires, Río Negro, San Luis, Santa Fe, Salta, Formosa, Mendoza and La Pampa.

According to the agency’s daily report, the fires in Chubut remained active in the Department of Biedma and another in Futaleufú was controlled.

Meanwhile, the departments of Zárate and Villarino in the province of Buenos Aires continue to be active while the outbreak in Ezeiza was controlled and specialized personnel managed to extinguish the outbreak in the Ciervo de los Pantanos National Park, in the town of Campana.

Meanwhile, in Río Negro the fires continue in Bariloche, and that of Adolfo Alsina is “controlled”.

In turn, the departments of Belgrano, Junín and Chacabuco, Coronel Pringles, San Martín, Dupuy I, in San Luis, have active foci, and a SNMF hydrant plane operates in the area.

Likewise, in the province of Santa Fe, fires remained active in its capital and in the department of Vera, as well as in the town of Anta in Salta.

The SNMF reported that the outbreaks in Pilcomayo, in Formosa, continue to be active; General Alvear, in Mendoza; and in Chalileo and Lihuel Calel, in La Pampa.

For his part, the mayor of the Nahuel Huapi National Park, Horacio Paradela, stated that “today more than 60 brigade members turned out, hoping to control the fire” in an area located south of Bariloche and referring to the so-called sector 7, in the part near Route 40. “There are ground personnel and aerial resources being deployed,” he said.

“The latest report gives an account of the progress of the fire and the complexity that it is having today, mainly in an easterly direction that with the behavior of the winds, the fire had an extreme advance and extreme behavior two days ago,” said the mayor of the protected area.

Likewise, Paradela expressed that “all the resources are being used to reduce the complexity of that place and to be able to control it adequately.” And he explained that “work is being done on the foci on the west side of the fire, both on Bastion Hill and north of Lake Martin.”

Regarding the climatic conditions, the mayor of the Patagonian National Park indicated that they are adverse, “we hope that these days a minimum of precipitation may be with us.”

Meanwhile, the fire in the Buenos Aires party of Ezeiza approached this Friday the limits of a private neighborhood in the town of Canning and, despite being controlled, the climatic conditions imply “a threat”, reported from the Fire Department of Tristan Suarez.

“The Canning fire is controlled so far, but the weather conditions, the wind and the high temperature do not help,” said a source from the Barracks.

Due to the “still imminent” risk, firefighters continue to carry out “ash guard” and control with mobiles and on-foot personnel “that there are no burning logs and other small igneous processes, fire principles that we are permanently putting out.”

In Miramar, meanwhile, firefighters put out a fire that originated in a mountain in the Vivero Forest of the spa city, while from the municipality of General Pueyrredon they indicated that due to the high temperatures of recent days. Starting this Friday, and until Monday the 17th, the Laguna de los Padres Nature Reserve will be closed to the public due to fire prevention in the area.

In San Luis, meanwhile, firefighters and brigade members from various barracks in the province were fighting today against three fire fronts amid high temperatures, which complicates their work, according to official sources.

A focus is located in the Puerta Colorada area, northeast of the province; another in the town of Lafinur, in the extreme north and a third is in the vicinity of Buena Esperanza, in the south of the province.

As reported from the Ministry of Security of San Luis, the high temperatures that have punished the province since the beginning of this week, with thermal marks above 40 degrees, complicate the work of firefighters.
