The Federation Council reacted to possible sanctions against Russia, which were proposed by representatives of the ruling Democratic Party in the United States. First Deputy Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov called the West’s initiative a hysterical attempt to convince US President Joe Biden not to enter into a dialogue with Russia. He expressed his opinion in an interview with the radio station “Moscow speaking”.
The senator noted that such a development of events is unlikely. “The introduction of such sanctions is, in fact, a break in relations between countries. Therefore, we will introduce against Biden [санкции]If we don’t introduce it, nothing will change, there will be no relations, and Russia will be freed from any obligations to the world community, ”said the representative of the Federation Council.
Jabarov expressed hope that US senators and congressmen would take a different decision and waive such sanctions. However, if they are accepted, Russia will be ready to give an answer. “The answer will be very tough. We will have a free hand in any direction if something like this happens,” he concluded.
In the United States, it was previously proposed to introduce restrictions against key sectors of the Russian economy, public debt and top officials of the state in the event of an escalation of the situation around Ukraine.
Earlier, a member of the Federation Council Alexei Pushkov commented on the bill of the US Senator Marco Rubio on a new package of sanctions against Russia. According to him, he is unlikely to receive support. Pushkov ironically suggested that a competition was taking place in the US Senate – who would come up with the best sanctions against Russia. He recalled that this is the third bill on sanctions against Russia by Washington.
