Ruhpolding – Saturday, January 15, 2022, 4:25 p.m

The men’s relay at the Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding begins with chaos at the shooting range.

Among the Norwegians, who are starting without their stars Johannes and Tarjei Boe and Sturla Holm Laegreid, who are at an altitude training camp, starting runner Aleksander Fjeld Andersen comes to the second shooting and looks around at first at a loss. One of the competitors shot his targets. After discussions with a referee, Andersen can continue shooting, the Norwegians are credited with two minutes at the end. But it’s not enough for more than seventh place.

Russia (0+4) won the German biathlon Mecca seven seconds ahead of Germany (0+2) and Belarus (0+6/+23.0).

Austria’s team consisting of David Komatz, Simon Eder, Patrick Jakob and Harald Lemmerer allowed ten spare rounds and was 3:19.9 minutes behind the winner. With twelfth place, the ÖSV quartet achieved its best result so far. In the two previous seasons, the ÖSV team only managed to finish 17th and 16th.

In the absence of Austria’s best points collector so far, Felix Leitner – he is currently completing a pre-Olympic high-altitude training camp like some top aces – head coach Ricco Groß continues to rely on the greater experience at the beginning. After 7.5 km twice by Komatz and Eder, the team is in ninth place, the less experienced Jakob and Lemmerer then lose places.

Next weekend there will be another relay race at the Olympic dress rehearsal in Antholz. But first, Lisa Hauser and Simon Eder will be in the pursuit on Sunday.
