Rubiales: "Whoever criticizes the Super Cup does it to appear"

Luis Rubiales wanted to respond in OKDIARIO to those who criticize that the Super Cup is being played in Saudi Arabia and not in Spain. The president of the Spanish Football Federation assured that the agreement has all the parties happy and that those who complain “do it without much basis”, he also asserted that they want to “appear to be on the good side”.

“Most people see it well, they like the format and has seen that this tournament has gone from being a summer procedure to a consolidated one and that happens to be the most important of small size because we have the most important clubs in the world”, explained Rubiales about a format that has already given matches to remember matches such as the first final between Madrid and Atlético, the final between Athletic and Barça last year or the Clásico in the semifinals this season.

The president of the Spanish Football Federation is open to hearing criticism for coming to a country where his organization has promoted important advances in the world of sport such as the entry of women in all sporting events or the creation of a Saudi Women’s League. «It is healthy and good that there are criticisms, but we also take a bit of rigor. In the critics it is said that women do not enter, that women such and such… This is changing and for the better. We have been the first to come and we have fostered that change,” he said.

At the same time, Rubiales knows that he will not be able to change the prejudices of a small sector. “My mission here is none other than to help Spanish football and a lot is being done with this agreement. Whoever wants to criticize will do so without much basis, for appearance, for pretending that they are on the good side… We are being rigorous and honest with the Federation. We found a budget with an income of 147 million and now we are above 400 per year and that is the management of my team, “he settled.
