You are currently viewing Presidential: what Taubira can bring more to the left according to his sympathizers

POLITICS – One more in the race. Christiane Taubira formalized her candidacy for the presidential election this Saturday, January 15 in Lyon. An announcement that comes as the left is fragmented less than four months from the deadline.

In the district of Croix-Rousse in Lyon, the former Keeper of the Seals made his announcement in front of around 400 supporters. At a time when the left already has eight declared contenders (Montebourg, Hidalgo, Roussel, Jadot, Mélenchon, Poutou, Arthaud and Kazib), this new candidacy could be that of the union, hope the sympathizers that Then24 was able to interview on the spot.

“She has experience of power and political disappointments, she has her leftist convictions on which she will not compromise”, estimates Kevin, local animator of the collective “Taubira for 2022″ for a year.

″Raise the level of debate”

They also hope that this candidacy will raise the level of the debates, in the face of the multiplication of the controversies which enamel this campaign.

“I don’t recognize myself when I hear politicians talking in a hurry and saying nonsense for nothing,” Antoine says. “She (Christiane Taubira, editor’s note) made a clear speech, and is not going to argue on subjects that do not concern anyone and I think we need that, not one controversy a day on nonsense, which does not have no impact on people’s lives.”

“She has made a major contribution to French political life in order to be able to raise the level of the debate a little and take clear positions with integrity and that is the most important thing in today’s world,” adds Pascale.

Cap on the popular primary

In the crowd, many evoke the popular primary whose vote must be held from January 27 to 30. For the moment, Christiane Taubira is the only major candidate to have announced that she would submit to the result of the ballot. In Lyon, this Saturday, supporters hope that others will follow the movement to achieve a union. Kevin also sends a message to Jean-Luc Mélenchon as well as to Anne Hidalgo, who like Yannick Jadot are automatic candidates but refuse to submit to the result.

“If they are so convinced of their strengths, that they come to the popular primary and if they win, we will join them to form a united team. It is out of the question to give up for 2022 in view of the climatic emergencies. The only way to limit frustration is to play as a team!”
