CDMX.- Mexico does not do the job of the United States in terms of migration, both nations have managed to see the issue regionally and work shoulder to shoulder, under equal circumstances and with respect for sovereignties, assured Ambassador Esteban Moctezuma Barragán .
“I think it is a regional issue, it is a phenomenon in which we are co-responsible not only for Mexico and the United States, but also for Central America. Also South America, because there have already been migrations from Ecuador, Brazil, Haiti; So, I greatly respect the dialogue that we have managed to build, that the United States and Mexico work shoulder to shoulder, under equal circumstances, with respect for their sovereignty, seeing the problem as regional.
Accredited as representative of the Mexican government to the United States, Moctezuma Barragán pointed out that the United States’ immigration policy is undergoing an important redefinition and what has been achieved is working in a coordinated manner to protect migrants.
The “Stay in Mexico” program, he defined, is being implemented again, but the Mexican government conditioned its collaboration.
“Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard has been very clear on this. Mexico conditioned its collaboration on this issue, to the fact that it was very different from what was previously known as the Remain in Mexico (Stay in Mexico); the times to make a resolution are shortening. The number of judges that resolve was increased to make it much more efficient; it is clearly determining what places they can reach and not that they can send people anywhere. It is seen if we have the capacity to attend to them, receive them, and if not, not receive them, ”explained the ambassador to the United States.
