The management and unions of the Mahle automotive company have closed the compensation agreement for the staff of the Vilanova i la Geltrú factory (Barcelona), fired after the closure of the plant, and who will receive between 23 and 33 days per year worked with a minimum of 35,000 euros. The German multinational announced last November an ERE (employment regulation file) to dismiss its 243 employees from Vilanova and this Saturday it was possible to reach an agreement on the conditions, three days after the end of the official period of consultations with the unions.

In a statement, UGT has explained that the principle of agreement amounts to a total of 37 million euros the volume of compensation to be paid by the company. The minimum compensation, regardless of the age group, has been established at 35,000 euros, and workers will receive between 23 and 33 days per year worked without a limit, depending on age. In parallel, the workforce will receive an additional 2,000 euros for seniority and older workers will receive an unemployment supplement of a minimum of 70%.

Once this agreement has been closed, UGT has highlighted the need to work to guarantee “a dignified reindustrialization”, which involves the hiring of the largest possible number of dismissed workers.

The German multinational expressed its intention a year ago to cut 7,600 jobs worldwide, of which 2,000 should leave Germany and 1,700 from the rest of Europe, to adapt to the transformation of the sector and face the fall in automotive demand due to covid.
