Scotland’s Andy Murray still has to wait for his 47th title at singles level.

The 34-year-old lost to the Russian Aslan Karatsev in two sets 3: 6, 3: 6 in the final of the ATP tournament in Sydney.

Karatsev, who went into the preparatory tournament for the Australian Open with a top seed, takes the serve from Murray, who has a wild card, in the first game. The Russian also sealed the first set with a break.

The second set starts for Murray as the first began: Karatsev takes the service game from the Briton in the second game. The 28-year-old confidently finishes the second set to clinch the third title of his career. Murray’s most recent tournament victory was at the European Open in October 2019.

Local hero Thanasi Kokkinaki takes the title at Adelaide’s second ATP tournament. In the final, the Australian beat Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech after 2:40 hours 6:7(6), 7:6(5), 6:3.

For women, the Spaniard Paula Badosa wins the WTA tournament in Sydney. The number nine in the world wins in the final against the Czech Barbora Kejcikova 6: 3, 4: 6, 7: 6 (4). The second women’s Adelaide tournament goes to the American Madison Keys, who defeats her compatriot Alison Riske 6-1, 6-2.
