The Rodin Museum in Santa Cruz will house more than a hundred pieces by the French sculptor

The mayor of the City Council of the capital, José Manuel Bermúdez, confirmed that “the Rodin Museum in Santa Cruz will house more than a hundred pieces by the French sculptor, which guarantees that his greatest works will be there and confirms the international dimension of this installation that will be located in the rehabilitated Viera y Clavijo Cultural Park”. In addition, he reiterates that “it will be a space that will finally be remodeled after years of waiting, thanks to the agreement with the Government of the Canary Islands, which provides for a investment of 10 million, plus the participation of the Cabildo de Tenerife, which has communicated its willingness to implement this investment with the technical project ahead”.

For his part, Juan José Martínez, mayor of the Treasury, reported that “the work sessions undertaken since October 2021, with the signing of the agreement, are being further specified in this visit by the Parisian museum delegation, so we are defining the lines to follow in the relationship model between Paris and Santa Cruz de Tenerife”. Likewise, he adds that, “in this sense, much progress has been made in the formalization of the agreement that will allow the development of the Rodin project in Santa Cruz, which also contemplates acquiring replicas, loan actions and transfers of other works by the Gallic artist” .

“The Rodin Museum in Paris -Martínez advanced- is going to make a greater effort than initially planned, which will materialize in a significant volume of sculptures on loan and free assignment for a number of years that will materialize part of its collection own”. Likewise, he argued that, “in addition, the package that is being negotiated contemplates the acquisition of original works and replicas, and we have made progress in aspects that have to do with delivery and payment terms, in which it is agreed that in both cases would be completed before the deadline for delivery of the Viera and Clavijo rehabilitation works.

As detailed by the mayor of the Treasury to DIARIO DE AVISOS, the forecast is that, in the coming weeks, a draft of the contract will be sent, “based on what we have discussed on this visit, in addition to the legal requirements for this type of agreement ”. Martínez points out that “we could formalize it through a direct award since they are the only possible suppliers of Rodin’s works”.

In parallel, the City Council will order the appraisal of the works that the Rodin Paris Museum offers, an obligatory step before the formalization of any agreement. “They are a set of works that have been selected and that represent each of the periods of the author’s work,” added the mayor of Housing.
With all these premises, Martínez estimates that in March the conditions could be met to formalize the contract.

Among the agreements signed during this visit by the French delegation, the Councilor for the Treasury announced “that the Rodin Museum in Santa Cruz will have the corporate image, logos and genuine merchandising of Rodin Paris” and added that “these meetings have served to learn about the full willingness to facilitate the management and involvement with the capital”.
