Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic He was arrested today in Australia, where he had arrived days ago to participate in the first Grand Slam of the season. The world number one is accused of providing false information on his visa declaration to enter the country.

The measure was decided by the Australian border authorities while waiting for a Federal Court to resolve his situation regarding whether or not he will be able to remain in Australia to play the first Grand Slam of the season, which will begin on Monday in Melbourne.

“This was submitted by my support team on my behalf – as I told immigration officials upon arrival – and my agent sincerely apologizes for the clerical error,” he admitted on Instagram. “This was human error and certainly not deliberate,” he added.

Giving wrong information on the form carries a maximum penalty of 12 months in prison plus a fine and possible visa cancellation.
