New blow for Jesús Vázquez: Cuatro cancels 'First Dates Café'

‘The fair price’, ‘The openers’, ‘At a glance’… and now ‘First Dates Café’. Mediaset Spain has decided to put an end to the daytime version of the emblematic ‘dating show’ by Cuatro. The program has not lived up to expectations, so it will say goodbye to viewers soon. The group has not finished finding a format capable of competing face to face with the rest of the competition’s offers.

Warner Bros. ITVP Spain will record its latest deliveries this coming Monday, January 17, and will conclude its premiere broadcasts at the beginning of February, according to what has been advanced ‘tell’. In any case, it would not be strange for the chain to continue offering repeated deliveries from that moment on, just as it has been doing with other spaces that have already been cancelled.

The presenter is about to premiere the second edition of ‘Idol Kids’ on Tele5

Although ‘First Dates Café’ landed on Cuatro’s desktop (2:00 p.m.) on December 13, one month has been more than enough for Mediaset to decide not to renew its continuity. The space moves around 2% of ‘share’, a very poor result and completely away from the good data that marks the original version of the format daily.

The cancellation of ‘First Dates’ is another hard setback for Jesús Vázquez, who he has seen how his latest commissions fell off the grid due to low interest from viewers. The Galician was left without ‘Mujeres y hombres y viceversa’ last March and also failed to shine with ‘Top Star’ on Saturday nights. The musical ‘talent’ said goodbye to Telecinco after only eight galas with a sad 8.3% average. As if that were not enough, the advance of ‘Idol Kids 2’ signed this Tuesday a weak 8.4% (1,352,000) in Telecinco’s ‘access’.

Vázquez will return with more appointments

Despite this early cancellation, Jesús Vázquez will once again lead new appointments in the second edition of ‘First Dates: Cruise’. Due to the first edition of ‘Secret Story’, Carlos Sobera was unable to board the love cruise again, so Mediaset decided to entrust the program to Vázquez. At the moment, there is no scheduled release date, although it is one of Cuatro’s bets for this semester of the year.

Mediaset and Jesús Vázquez signed the agreement for the renewal of the long-term contract in November 2018 that unites the presenter with the Fuencarral group. Soon it will jump again to Telecinco to present the new edition of ‘Idol Kids’, which this time will arrive with more demands, spectacle and important new features in its mechanics. In addition, it will also have the incorporation of Laras Álvarez as co-host.

“I am very excited to take the reins of ‘First Dates: Cruise’. As I have said other times, ‘First Dates’ It is one of the programs, if not the program, that I like the most of all those that are being made right now in Mediaset Spain”, assured Vázquez months before hosting the ‘Café’ version. “I love it for the good work it does to make all kinds of people, social groups, minorities visible and for the normalization of human relations, whatever type they are. It is an honor for me to be part of this team and I hope to live up to it.”
