Coinciding with what was stated in this medium by the engineer Franco Fogliata in his article of January 10 and referring to the closure of mills, I transcribe the request also published in this newspaper on December 29, 1965 by our grandfather, the engineer Manuel García Fernández: ” After almost half a century of activity in Tucumán, I think I should make public the reasons why my family and I have abandoned the management of the Bella Vista sugar mill, founded by my father in 1882. As a consequence of PE decree 4216/65, regarding In the 1965 harvest, the Banco de la Nación issued a resolution establishing that it would give the mills up to 1,390 pesos per ton of cane received from cane growers; 500 pesos per ton of own cane and 663 pesos per ton of cane, for manufacturing. According to those rules, Bella Vista should have received a sum greater than 700,000,000 pesos. The fact is that it only received 132,000,000 pesos from the Banco de la Nación, a sum much lower than that received by other factories with much lower production than ours. My repeated efforts and claims before high national authorities and the Bank were useless, to obtain a sum that, although it was not the maximum obtainable, was related to our needs. This situation forced us to undersell sugar and caused us to be unable to continue paying our workers, employees and cane suppliers. What affects my spirit the most is that this arbitrariness and injustice has been carried out under a government that bears the title of radical as its emblem. I thank the many friends who have tried to help us and have sent me their support; to the cane growers who patiently waited for their due payments and to the employees and workers who have understood my attitude in defense of the company. I will remember all of them with deep affection and I sincerely hope that prosperity returns to the province of Tucumán that I love so much, for having spent the best part of my life there.”
