You are currently viewing Heat wave: the Government’s recipes did not work and thousands of users are without electricity

Argentina faces this Friday one of the days with the highest temperature in the midst of the heat wave and from the first hour the Metropolitan area records cuts of light. Although the National government He assured that with the measures that were adopted to reduce the demand, the supply could be guaranteed, the neighbors reported the lack of supply on social networks.

According to information issued by the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE), around 8:30 there were around 8,000 households without supply in the northern area of the City of Buenos Aires and Greater Buenos Aires. The list included claims for lack of electricity in Palermo, Belgrano, Colegiales, Olivos, Vicente López, among others.

As explained by the journalist specializing in Energy, Nicolás Gandini, the lack of electricity is due to a problem in Edenor’s main plant. “With the electricity demand close to 21,000 MW, above that expected for that time, 900 MW of Central Puerto were unhooked again,” he emphasized on his social networks and recalled that it is the same problem that was recorded on the 11th of January.

Meanwhile, the regulatory body stated that in the case of the lines supplied by Edesur, at 8:41 there were 6,933 users without electricity. Of that total, 57% of those affected correspond to the towns of Liniers and Mataderos, two of the most populated regions in the Federal Capital. Meanwhile, the rest of the cuts are registered in Boedo (CABA) and José Marmol, party of Almirante Brown.

The National Meteorological Service (SMN) anticipated that this Friday will be a day of historic heat with records that may reach a record. The forecast anticipates that the maximum temperature could reach 42 degrees by mid-afternoon and even the thermal could position itself between two and three degrees higher. Therefore, it is estimated that the energy consumption multiplies with the passing of the hours in parallel to the escalation of mercury.

The failed recipe of the Government

The national government had announced yesterday that, with the energy saving promoted by the State through the ‘home office’ decree for state-owned companies and the reduction of consumption in companies, the supply would be guaranteed. The effect was positive this Wednesday, where there were no massive cuts, however today’s day started complicated.

This recipe was implemented by Venezuela in 2016. The measure in the Caribbean country had been announced by the vice president at the time, Aristóbulo Istúriz, who paralyzed the situation to slow down the decrease in service of the main hydroelectric plant in the country and avoid a blackout throughout the country. This decision was supported by the then Minister of Energy, Luis Motta Domínguez.
