According to the club, the left-back of the German soccer champions FC Bayern Munich Alphonso Davies will be out for several weeks due to acute myocarditis. The reason is a corona infection. Davies is one of the vaccinated players in the Bayern squad.
At the so-called press talk of FC Bayern Munich before the Bundesliga away game at 1. FC Köln, coach Julian Nagelsmann announced to the journalists that the player Alphonso Davies (sometimes also called “Phonzy”) will not be part of the current squad due to a diagnosed myocarditis . Nagelsmann is quoted on the FC Bayern website as saying:
“At Phonzy, yesterday in the follow-up examination that we do with every player who was infected with Corona, we found signs of mild myocarditis – i.e. heart muscle inflammation.”
The club’s international Twitter channel also informed international fans about the event:
The Munich tabloid tz quotes further details from today’s press talk about the club’s view, in the case of coach Julian Nagelsmann, on the recent events surrounding Davies:
“During the follow-up examination, we saw signs of mild myocarditis, i.e. heart muscle inflammation. It’s out for the time being and won’t be available for the next few weeks. It has to heal completely. There are different triggers for it. It’s often a certain one Viral load in the body. The probability that it comes from the corona disease is relatively high. But you can’t say that 100 percent. The fact is: he has it, and that’s high.
Davies is one of the vaccinated players in the Bayern squad. The topic of a possible side effect or effect due to the vaccinations carried out in the club was neither addressed nor discussed by FC Bayern or by the journalists present. According to information from tz all FC Bayern players “where this was possible” received their booster vaccination on December 17, 2021. It is not known whether Davies has also received a booster vaccination.
As part of the vaccination discussion about FC Bayern and Joshua Kimmich, the players Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala (both now vaccinated), Michaël Cuisance (now switched to FC Venice), Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Kimmich were named as unvaccinated, is at least certain that Davies had received the double vaccination. Nagelsmann also commented on the entire Corona discussion at the press talk: “I actually thought that we could bury the topic before Christmas. Now it’s a lot about Corona again.”
The coach is from the German press agency quoted as saying that Davies’ illness was “not that dramatic”. The trainer was therefore unable to say whether the myocarditis was a consequence of the corona virus:
“But of course there is a probability, although the cause is currently irrelevant,” Nagelsmann said in the dpa report.
In January, the club’s official website reported that Alphonso Davis, along with players Leroy Sané and Dayot Upamecano, tested positive for the coronavirus. The statement read: “He is fine, in domestic isolation.
Davies received more social media attention in October last year when, as a passionate FIFA player, he let his fans see him ‘unwrap’ Lionel Messi in Ultimate Team mode via Twitch during a live stream.
