U.S imposed its first sanctions under the weapons program North Korea, after a series of missile launches North Koreans. The measures target six North Korean citizens, one Russian and a Russian company that, according to Washington, is responsible for the acquisition of goods for the programs from Russia Y China.
The Treasury Department The United States said the measures are aimed at both preventing the advancement of North Korea’s programs and preventing its attempts to proliferate weapons technologies. The nation also proposed that five of those people be blacklisted from the UN Security Council.
The government of Joe Biden tried unsuccessfully to establish a dialogue with Pionyang to persuade him to abandon his nuclear bombs and missiles since he took office in January last year. The State Department spokesperson, Ned Price, stated that “the United States remains committed to pursuing diplomacy with North Korea.”
North Korea’s mission to the UN, the Russian and Chinese embassies in Washington and the Russian company did not respond to requests for comment. North Korean media said the leader Kim Jong Un watched the test launch of a hypersonic missile on Tuesday, the second in less than a week, Reuters reported.
Tuesday’s test came hours after the US mission to the UN, joined by Albania, France, Ireland, Japan Y United Kingdom, condemn last week’s launch and call on UN states to honor their sanctions obligations. UN resolutions ban North Korea’s nuclear and ballistic missile tests and impose sanctions.
