The Board “has endorsed these projects and referred them to the Ministry of Transport in order to have” access to these funds, framed in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan launched in the wake of the coronavirus crisis.

The Andalusian Executive is going to allocate some of these items to promote energy efficiency and the modernization of buildings it owns, such as Institutes, colleges, schools, judicial buildings or fish markets, or of those whose management is within its competence.

Carazo has detailed that the Palacio de Congresos was the first to be built in Andalusia and has been “motor” and continues to do so, “now despite the pandemic, the economy of Granada.”

The funds from the Program to Promote the Rehabilitation of Public Buildings will have to be invested imminently, while the projects will have to be tendered in 2023 and the works will have to finish by the end of 2024.

The building was inaugurated by the Kings of Spain on April 19, 1992, the year of the Barcelona Olympic Games and the Universal Exhibition of Seville. From the first day it became one of the landmark buildings in the city of Granada.

Juan Daniel Fullaondo, one of the great Bilbao architects of the 20th century, is the drafting architect of the project together with M Jess Muoz and Jos Ibez.
