On the opening day of the Summer Workshops, carried out by the Secretariat of Territorial Articulation and Local Development throughout the provincial territory, the Minister of Social Development, Gabriel Yedlin, attended the Los Pekes picnic area, in Bajo Hondo, to accompany the start of the activities, together with local leaders.
On the occasion, Yedlin highlighted that “a group of women organized to take care of each other and their families, set up a community kitchen and have summer activities so that the boys are cared for. We accompany with food security and recreation ”.
During the morning, a puppet show was developed for the children of the area who attend the device daily. They even made use of the characters themselves and encouraged their colleagues.
The picnic area, located between the towns of El Bracho and San Andrés, is run by women who articulate with the Ministry of Social Development through the Local Management table of San Andrés. Organizational processes were initiated through which cooking training was developed within the framework of the Social Development in Movement program.
Based on that, a Community Impact Plan was financed to strengthen the group as an organization, it was articulated with the Community Training and Organization Directorate within the framework of the ORGANIZE program and a community kitchen was put into operation articulating with the Food Policy Directorate . In addition, the minister added: “As a State our responsibility is to be on a par with these women, who, like so many others, took the lead in this social situation.”
On the other hand, the official said that, in reference to the health situation “we talked about the new isolation measures” and stressed that “they are all vaccinated with their complete scheme.” Yedlin was accompanied by the secretary of Territorial Articulation and Local Development, Francisco Navarro; the director of the area, Sofía Santillán; and the referent of the picnic area, Alexandra Robles. In this regard, Navarro said: “Through the Ministry we are accompanying and promoting the opportunity of summer activities to 40 families and almost 100 children.”
He also explained that “this (the summer workshops) is taking place throughout the province and this week we have started in each of the communes and in San Miguel de Tucumán.” In addition, he invited those who want to participate to contact local governments and specified that the activities will last for a month. In this context, he recognized the support of Governor Osvaldo Jaldo, who, in the same vein as the Chief of Cabinet, Juan Manzur, asked “to be on a par with those most in need.”
For his part, Santillán recalled that “the workshops are a project that we have had in the Ministry since 2009 and have two main objectives: on the one hand, we strengthen the spaces for participation that we accompany throughout the year; and also provide recreational activities for children in January ”. These programs are implemented in the territories where the Ministry of Development is present and are executed by local actors, responding to the characteristics of each community. “This makes them more participatory because the activities offered have to do with the particularities of each place,” said the official.
This year 100 workshops will be held in 100 different locations. Normally they are of plastic, corporal activities, sports, among other topics. Finally, he explained that “the picnic area works from Monday to Friday and has a group of 40 people who make 122 meals a day for around 40 families.” “In this community there are many swallow workers and the pandemic affected a lot, so the picnic area is a great contribution,” he stressed.
