Elizabeth II withdraws military titles from Prince Andrew after sexual abuse scandal

Queen Elizabeth II has decided to withdraw all his military titles from Prince Andrew, who will be tried in the United States for his alleged involvement in a scandal of sexual abuse of a minor, as Buckingham Palace announced on Thursday. The move comes after Andrés’ lawyers failed to persuade a US judge to dismiss a civil lawsuit against him accusing him of sexual abuse.

“With the approval and agreement of the queen, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and royal patronages have been returned to the queen,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.

“The Duke of York will continue to hold no public office and is defending this case as a private citizen.” A royal source said Andrés would no longer use the title of ‘His Royal Highness’ in any official position and that his other roles would be distributed among other members of the royal family. They would not return to Prince Andrew.
