Through a statement, the deputy of the Frente de Todos, Carlos Cisneros, referred to the fine imposed by the Department of Internal Commerce of the province to the electric power distribution company EDET.

“Despite the fact that EDET has been imposed a fine with the maximum established in the law for infractions of the Consumer Defense Law, it has little or nothing flavor. So I must also emphasize that it seems to me a late reaction of the Secretary of Commerce to impose a fine in 2022 for an offense committed in the year 2.019, ”Cisneros pointed out.

The $ 15 million fine imposed on EDET is due to the power outages that occurred on December 3 and 8; and June 25, 2019.

“If the fine had been applied in 2019, the people of Tucumán would not have suffered the recurring power cuts for these holidays, in the heat of the heat wave. Officials should not maintain commitments with companies, ”Cisneros lashed out.

“EDET has failed to comply with Law No. 6,608 for 30 years, which establishes the regulatory framework for the distribution of electrical energy, not making the necessary investments to guarantee and improve the quality, regularity, continuity, generality and equality of the service, abusing its position dominant in the market by speculating on the profitability of service interruptions over investments, without addressing the claims of its users “, Cisneros listed.

“Based on this and the antecedent of the $ 239 million fine imposed on the company EDESUR, through Resolutions 1 and 2/22 of the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE) for non-compliance with the quality of service and customer service. users, is to ask the Governor to impose more sanctions and fines on the EDET company, “said Cisneros.

“In this way, I will also request the Ombudsman’s Office to take on the initiation of legal actions to repair the damages suffered by the people of Tucuman as a result of the continuous service cuts or other breaches of the EDET company,” he reported.

“I invite other local institutions to initiate collective actions for damages caused to users, as well as for punitive damages, as stipulated by the Consumer Defense Law and jurisprudence on the matter.”

“A quality public service is a fundamental right of users, it is related to human rights such as access to decent housing or an adequate standard of living. When EDET does not invest and speculate on power outages, it is violating those rights, “he continued.

“I am going to accompany the Provincial Government in the toughening of fines and sanctions to the EDET company, until they dissuade them from their policy of high rates, zero investment and poor service,” Cisneros closed.
