The press spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Sakharova, has announced a meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. Moscow’s proposals on security guarantees will be on the agenda.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will hold the first face-to-face meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock in Moscow on January 18. The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Office, Maria Sakharova, said:
“Annalena Baerbock will be traveling to Moscow on a working visit.”
At the meeting, the status and prospects of German-Russian relations are to be discussed and a schedule for political contacts to be drawn up. One of the points of discussion will also be Moscow’s proposals on security guarantees. Literally it said:
“There will be an in-depth exchange of views on the most pressing international issues, particularly on moving forward our proposals for comprehensive security guarantees in Europe.”
In addition, the promotion of cooperation in areas such as renewable energy and hydrogen energy as well as climate protection and the environment is addressed.
In December Lavrov had in an interview with RT informed that Baerbock had accepted the invitation to visit Russia. The Foreign Minister herself pointed out the importance of maintaining the dialogue with Russia in order to resolve crisis situations and avoid escalation.
