It was a difficult discussion. We have serious disagreements with Russia, but the fact that we are discussing them is already good. We didn’t speak at all for two years. Russia demands not to expand NATO and withdraw troops from the eastern countries of the bloc – this is unacceptable for us. Each country, including Ukraine, can choose its own path. Russia cannot decide who will join NATO and who will not. NATO is a defensive alliance, we did not destroy Yugoslavia, it collapsed on its own, we just came to Kosovo and Bosnia to stop the atrocities. NATO expansion is not an aggression, and Russia has already shown aggression against Ukraine. Our dialogue is difficult, but necessary. There is a real risk of an armed conflict in Europe, which is why meetings like today are important. We are ready to sit down at the negotiating table to prevent conflict. But if Russia uses force, we will impose serious sanctions.
