The Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court has upheld the appeal filed by the Pontifical, Royal and Venerable Slavery Association of the Holy Christ of La Laguna, in Tenerife, against the judgment of the Court that agreed with a woman who claimed the annulment of the Article of the Statutes of said association that only accepts men as partners.

The Chamber recalled that the Slavery of the Holy Christ, formed only by men since 1659, is an association constituted in accordance with canon law with an exclusively religious purpose.

“Right to make your own rules”

Similarly, it has underlined that the essential content of the right of association includes both the right to associate and to establish its own rules, which extend to statutory regulation of the causes and the procedure for the admission and expulsion of partners.
