The Ministry of Health reported 4,847 new cases of Covid 19 with a positivity that reached 7.28% at the national level and 7% in the Metropolitan Region.

Through his social networks, the Minister of Health, Enrique Paris, indicated that as of today we have 27,543 active cases and that there are 12 percent of ICU beds available in the health network.

Meanwhile, in the Coquimbo Region, President Sebastián Piñera expressed his conviction that the idea of ”hibernating” to cut the chain of the pandemic, failed in other countries where this measure was applied.

“Chile is one of the countries that has best faced the health crisis and that is recognized by all international organizations, it was taking the problem seriously and very early,” said the head of state.

The President added that “after the vaccines we started a Step-by-Step plan that was highly criticized in its time, some wanted to do a kind of hibernation and for everyone to stay at home forever. Other countries did it: it was a failure ”.

Regarding the omicron variant that is pushing Covid infections up, the president said that “I hope it will hit us because we are part of this world and the coronavirus does not respect borders or ideologies, but I feel that we are well prepared and I I ask you to take care of yourself, because personal care is essential ”.

“Today we have approximately 4,847 cases, which is a lot, but if you compare it with the 140,000 in neighboring countries, we are in a situation of good protection. I project – and this is a personal projection – that the cases are going to increase and I believe that we are going to exceed 10,000 cases. But our health system is going to allow us to provide all the medical attention that people require, “he said.
