Minister believes that strategy can be useful from a public health point of view; a public policy must be structured to guide sales outlets on how to carry out the exams

Fátima Meira/Futura Press/Estadão Content – 12/20/2021Minister Marcelo Queiroga said that Brazil is ‘doing well’ in the fight against the pandemic

The Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, said this Wednesday, 12, that the folder will send to the National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa), still this week, a technical note requesting authorization to use autotestes for the diagnosis of Covid-19. In a conversation with the press, when asked about sending the documents, Queiroga informed that the Ministry of Health is “working in this perspective”. “[Deve sair] this week for sure. That’s not the problem. This is one of the points that can help us. The problem is the virus, which mutates and is creating difficulties all over the world. Here in Brazil we are doing well. All of you are witnesses”, pointed out the minister, who believes that the application of self-tests can be useful from a public health point of view.

Queiroga points out, however, that a well-structured public policy is needed so that sales outlets correctly guide the population about the test and so that the Ministry of Health is promptly informed about positive results. “Anvisa consulted the Ministry of Health about a possible policy for the approval of self-tests. At a time when we need to increase testing capacity, the private sector and each of the Brazilians who have flu symptoms can also join the federal government initiative. The self-test, as long as the pharmacy that sells supports those who buy in carrying out the test, guiding them to perform the test correctly and so that the data is reported if positive to the Ministry of Health, can add to the efforts of the Ministry of Health and of the public power in general”, pointed out the minister. “We need a policy to do this in a synchronized way and that can be useful from a public health point of view”, he emphasized.
