In Nazaré, Justine Dupont rescued in the middle of giant waves

SURF – Justine Dupont is used to surfing giant waves, but her last session could have turned into a drama. The surfer from Lacanau suffered an impressive fall as she tried to tame a wave – rather a wall of water – in Nazaré, Portugal. This city is particularly known for the mythical Praia de Norte spot that Justine Dupont frequents regularly. She told her adventures on her Instagram account, embellishing her story with several pictures.

“I had just surfed several good waves with Fred David [champion du monde de BodySurf, également son compagnon NDLR]. He then towed me on a huge wave. I came down the hill well all the way to the bottom, once I wanted to start turning my board came to a stop. I then took a huge sanction that brought me right in front of the cliff of Nazaré. The place where no one wants to be. ”

The spectators of the event quickly understood the dangerousness of the situation. “Fred tried to get me back but the timing was just too tight and he had to run up the cliff. I was then atomized by several waves, ”she continues. “Lucas [un autre conducteur de jetski, NDLR] managed to get me back just before I ended up in ‘crustacean’ mode in the rocks ”.

The surfer managed to get out of the water at the last minute, “very tired, but conscious”. She knows she came close to the worst and thanked all the people “who stepped in” to get her out of there. The sportswoman also clarified that “all [ses] trainings ”were useful for handling the intensity of the waves. “It was really hot but it’s also completely part of the game when you play an extreme sport,” concludes the Canaulaise.
