Hundreds of people walk along Leidsevaart in Haarlem in memory of Sam

“Young and old walk along,” says reporter Paul de Vlieger, who walks along on behalf of the Haarlems Dagblad. “Many of the walkers carry candles. Residents of the Leidsevaart, along which the route runs, have also lit candles in front of their homes.” Canvases have been hung along the route.

Sam’s family, his parents and two brothers, watch the walk from home on television, where it is broadcast live. They have expressed their appreciation for the initiative.

Mayor of Haarlem Jos Wienen and the mayor of Bloemendaal, Elbert Roest, will be joining us. There are also camera crews from Hart van Nederland and RTV Noord-Holland.

The walk was organized by local residents. The walk started at 6.30 pm from Heemstede-Aerdenhout station. From there, the participants walk to the spot along the Leidsevaart where Sam’s body was found on Friday afternoon.
