Extraordinary Congress: URD runs towards its implosion

The Collective for the Safeguarding of the URD held a press conference last week during which, the members announced an extraordinary congress for the renewal of the office on January 16, 2022. An omen of bicephalism born of the difficult choice between the URD and the late President Soumaïla Cissé is surely emerging. Is the handshake party heading for an implosion?

For some time now, the URD party has not left the media scene. Sometimes, which “candidate for the next presidential election?” Sometimes, the “Soumistes”, sometimes the “upstarts”, “the intruders”. Until today, who? To replace the late Soumaïla Cissé, the founder of the URD at the head of the party. For some, a blow to the memory of the late Soumaïla Cissé for others an act to save the URD which undermines the political ground today.

URD is necessarily heading towards the most unprecedented of bicephalisms. The eternal struggle that has ruined the after-every-great-man. The war of the partisans of the ideal against those of the person. Some cry to save the memory of Soumaïla Cissé by blocking the road to certain candidates such as Dr. Boubou Cissé and Mamadou Igor Diarra, on the other side they denounce an anti-democratic nepotism to block the road to Me Demba Traoré.

The extraordinary congress is called. The main objective according to the petition launched and signed by a large majority according to the information, is to replace Pr. Salikou Sanogo interim president. It is considered too close and as a support for the candidacy of Me Demba Traoré. This objective of the extraordinary congress for the supporters of Me Demba, is like a coup d’etat by certain upstarts who want to take the URD hostage and offer it to Dr. Boubou Cissé or Mamadou Igor Diarra. Both candidates within the party.

All in all, according to the members of the collective for the safeguard of the URD and some presidents of federations present at the conference, the extraordinary congress convened on January 16 is statuary and respected all the provisions of the party. And in the event that the interim president does not respond on the day of the congress, another vice-president will preside over the sessions. The 3th Vice-president, Mrs. Coulibaly Kadiatou Samaké is leaving for the congress and intends to chair it in case the first and second vice-president are absent.

So on January 16, there will be an extraordinary congress on behalf of the URD. But the intriguing question, what would URD be after this congress? Would this party escape an internal implosion in the days to come? Difficult anyway. Time will tell more.
