CAN 2022 (Group F): Mali offers Tunisia's scalp

The Eagles of Mali have successfully entered this 33th edition of the African Cup of Nations, by winning in front of Tunisia (1-0), this afternoon at the Limé stadium. The only goal of the game came from the penalty spot in the 48th minute by striker Ibrahima Koné. With this victory, Mali temporarily takes the lead of the group F standings with 3 points, pending the second meeting, which will pit Mauritania against Gambia, from 16:00 GMT.

After a closed first period where the Malians nevertheless managed to create some opportunities, without succeeding in framing, this Tunisia / Mali meeting became more intense in the second half. Barely three minutes from the return from the locker room, Mali gets a penalty, which will be transformed by Ibrahima Koné (1-0, 48 ‘). The Malian striker takes Ben Said on the wrong foot and crosses his shot from the left.

As we were heading towards the last 10 minutes of the game, Tunisia will also get a contentious penalty, since the Tunisian player took the ball with his hand, even before the referee whistled a foul. The penalty will also be stopped by the Malian goalkeeper Ibrahim Bousso Mounkoro in the 77th minute. The captain of the Carthage Eagles, Wahbi Khazri crossed his shot hard halfway up and Mounkoro started on the right side and turned away. All Malians jump into his arms.

However, Mali ended this match 10 against 11, with a red card for El-Bilal Touré. The Reims stadium striker who had just come into play, wipes his crampons on Tunisia defender Dylan Bronn by going to the pressing, in the 87th minute. Janny Zikwaze does not hesitate to brandish a direct red. The Zambian referee, who is taking part in his fifth Africa Cup, whistled the end of the game even before the end of the regulatory 90 minutes, while the fourth referee had not yet announced additional time.

The CAF committee decides to play at least five additional minutes. If the Malians who lead in the score came out to finish the game, the Tunisians refused asking to replay the match.
