In 2013 he joined Borussia Dortmund Immortal: Stoppage time is running in the quarter-final second leg against Malaga. Felipe Santana scores the winning goal, explodes the stadium and shoots the black and yellow players into the semi-finals of the Champions League.

After that, the Brazilian’s career was rather bumpy. Many club changes, most recently even a two-year break due to an injury. In 2021 he finally found a club, but now the former hero of Borussia Dortmund probably finally before the end of his career.

Borussia Dortmund: Ex-BVB hero before the end of his career?

April 9, 2013 will be remembered by BVB fans for a lifetime. In the second leg against Malaga FC, Dortmund were 2-1 back shortly before the end of the game. What followed is now a piece of Dortmund history. First Marco Reus equalized, then Felipe Santana poked the ball over the line in stoppage time. BVB won 3-2 and were in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

This is Felipe Santana:

  • Born on March 17th, 1986 in Rio Claro
  • Moved to Borussia Dortmund in 2008
  • Completed 95 Bundesliga games for Schwarzgelb
  • Won the championship twice and the cup once
  • Had to take a career break for two years due to an injury

After this season, the Borussia Dortmund chapter was over for Felipe Santana. Behind Mats Hummels and Neven Subotic, he was only the third central defender and switched to rival FC Schalke 04. That started an odyssey.

With his many new clubs in Germany, Russia, Greece and Brazil, Santana could never really gain a foothold. A severe shock followed in 2018: Santana sustained a serious injury and decided to take a break from his career for the time being.

Borussia Dortmund: Santana without a club

The Brazilian was without a club for two years. Last year the defender found a new club and played for Chapecoense in the Brazilian second division. He signed a contract until the end of the year and played 22 competitive games for the second division side.
