The agency stated that the measure is necessary to protect the health of the population after the increase in the number of cases of Covid-19.
The National Health Surveillance Agency (anvisa) recommended to Ministry of Health and to the Civil House this Wednesday, 12, the definitive suspension of the cruises in Brazil. The agency stated that the measure is necessary to protect the health of the population. As of December 31, 2021, with the increase in cases of Covid-19 on ships, the agency recommended the temporary suspension of activities until more data were available to assess the epidemiological scenario. However, the document sent to the Ministry of Health concludes that the current scenario is unfavorable to the continuity of cruise operations.
“Since the temporary suspension recommendation, Anvisa has been evaluating the evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 epidemiological scenario on board ships and also in Brazil and in the world. It is observed that the scenario has become even more challenging in view, in particular, of the vertiginous increase in the number of cases on vessels and in Brazil”, said the agency in a statement. According to Anvisa, until January 6, 1,177 positive cases of Covid-19 were reported among crew and passengers on the five vessels operating in the country. “The evolution of the identification of positive cases demonstrates a vertiginous increase in cases of Covid-19 on board vessels in recent days, indicating a radical change in the epidemiological scenario”, he declared.
