A massive blackout in the suburbs left thousands of users without electricity

Due to the cuts there were also complications with ATMs and attention in banks / télam

A day of fury lived yesterday some 700,000 users in the northern area of the Conurbano and the city of Buenos Aires affected by an extended cut in the electricity service, in the middle of a day of suffocating heat in which – once again – the supply it did not withstand the high demands.

The major fault occurred after 1:00 p.m., when a large part of the country was already scorched by a temperature around 40º C and the electricity demand exceeded 27,000 MW, preparing to break the peak of 27,088 MW registered on December 29. So, the temperature averaged 31.7 ° C and users without light were around 200,000.

But yesterday everything went further: the unbearable heat and the increased demand for energy resulted in complications for more clients, mainly from the Edenor company and in Buenos Aires neighborhoods such as Belgrano, Nuñez, Palermo, Recoleta, Colegiales, Villa Urquiza, Villa Pueyrredón , Agronomy, Versalles, Villa Santa Rita, Villa del Parque and the municipalities of Vicente López, Tigre, Pilar, Tres de Febrero, Lomas de Zamora, San Martin, General Rodríguez and Morón, among others. To the neighborhood hardships were added the drama of merchants, the failures in ATMs and traffic lights, also making it difficult to depart from Aeroparque flights, the attention in banks, testing and vaccination centers.

Both Edenor and the Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE) -whose official page fell during the afternoon, which made it impossible to follow the map of the outages in real time- estimated some 700,000 users affected by an incident at the Central Puerto, Puerto Log.

While at 3:35 p.m., through a statement published on its networks, Edenor reported that the reported failure “around 1:00 p.m.” was caused by “a fire that occurred in a house in San Martín”, which produced “a disturbance in the service that initially affected some areas of Tigre, San Fernando, and San Martín and later there were service outages of generating machines at the Nuevo Puerto power plant ”. A large part of the northern corridor of the city of Buenos Aires and the Greater Buenos Aires, admitted the company, were affected, for which it regretted “the accident that occurred and particularly on a day like today in which unusual temperatures have been registered with the consequent peak in electricity consumption ”.

“Apologies for the inconvenience,” Edenor added at 4:28 p.m. and 8:54 p.m., about 8 hours after the initial failure, reported the “normalization” of the affected network and that it was working on the “replacement” of specific cases without service.

To a lesser extent, some 40,000 Edesur users were also affected by the outages due to a failure in high voltage lines “outside” the responsibility of that company, as reported on Twitter.
