Ukraine fordert US-Senat auf, Sanktionen gegen Nord Stream 2 zu unterstützen

Kiev has called on US Senators to support the Nord Stream 2 Sanctions Act. This was declared by the Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. On his Twitter account wrote is:

“Ukraine asks all of its friends in the US Senate to support legislation to protect European energy security.”

Zelensky also thanked Senators Ted Cruz and Chuck Schumer, who had agreed to put the document to the vote.

Previously, the newspaper had The Hill reports that the Senate is due to vote on the issue by January 14th. The bill deals with restrictions related to the construction of pipelines. Sixty members of the House of Lords of Congress must support the initiative in order for it to be adopted. Nord Stream 2 is a gas pipeline with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters per year that will lead from the Russian coast through the Baltic Sea to Germany. The project is fiercely opposed by the US, which produces its liquefied natural gas in the EU, and Ukraine, which fears the loss of transit.

Russia has repeatedly requested that Nord Stream 2 should no longer be mentioned in connection with any politicization, as it is a commercial project that benefits both Russia and the EU.
