The great wave. In just 10 days, the fourth wave of infections managed to equal the record of active cases caused by its predecessor in mid-2021. Until yesterday there were 508 active cases of Covid-19 in Mazatlán. Another 271 patients were monitored by health authorities as suspected cases. The rate of infections has also skyrocketed in the rest of the municipalities in southern Sinaloa. In Escuinapa there were already 98 active cases and in Rosario 49 were reported yesterday, seven in Concordia and four in San Ignacio. The actual figures, however, could be higher. It must be remembered that not all infected people seek help from doctors and trust themselves to improve at home. Among all the bad news is that this fourth wave of infections, possibly caused by the Omicron strain, is less lethal. At least in official reports, the Ministry of Health has not notified a single death since Sunday caused by complications related to Covid-19. Even so, health authorities urge families to stay in their homes and avoid going to crowded places.
Nobody is saved. In this fourth wave of infections, no one is exempt from infections. Yesterday there was a cascade of reports about well-known personalities who have tested positive for Covid-19. In Mazatlán, the private secretary of the state governor, former Mazatlán mayor Alejandro Higuera Osuna, was reported under treatment after testing positive. The same happened with the president of the republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who during the “morning” of Monday was heard with his throat closed and by noon he reported affected by Covid-19.
Bad news. The infection of the president of the republic by Covid-19 was bad news with greater implications for Sinaloa. And it is that the same Monday, Andrés Manuel López Obrador had announced a visit to Sinaloa, specifically to the south of the entity, to inspect the progress of works on the Santa María dam, in Rosario, and the Picachos dam, in Mazatlán. With this, the opportunity for the entity is lost, since the direct attention of the president guarantees the priority of investment for these vital works for the agricultural development of southern Sinaloa. Other political issues also await the presence of the moral leader of Morena to be resolved in the entity. The representatives of the different sectors trust that the visit of the president of the republic will only be postponed for a few days.
Tourist expectation. Other visits that are eagerly awaited in Mazatlán is that of the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués. The federal official has scheduled a visit to Mazatlán to inspect the work of the new aquarium, called to be the largest in Latin America; in addition to inaugurating a plaque in Liverpool Alley. The tourism sector relies on the prompt presence of Torruco Marqués to present other investment projects such as tourism promotion programs in the United States and Canada for the recovery of international markets. The Secretary for Economic Development, Tourism and Fisheries, Ricardo Velarde, intends to recover the market for the so-called colleges tours. It will be necessary to see if there are achievements in it.
A stir in the networks. The news of the arrest of a young man caused a great commotion on social networks, whom they accuse of being allegedly responsible for a robbery that occurred on December 29 in Urbi Villas del Real. The information was given by the Mazatlán Municipal Public Security press department on Sunday evening, and yesterday had dozens of comments on the different news portals of the city. The note generated controversy because according to those who interacted, the young detainee does not look like the person who was videotaped committing the robbery. Netizens criticized the police, who they said only grabbed a scapegoat to present work, and the real thieves are not disturbed.
