Puig hides himself in Oltra so as not to explain in Cortes the 175 complaints of abuse of minors under guardianship

The first vice president of the Generalitat Valenciana and Minister of Equality and Inclusive Policies Mónica Oltra will appear in the Valencian Courts next Tuesday, the 18th. She will have to explain the 175 complaints of sexual abuse presented by minors under the guardianship of the Ministry she directs. However, the president of the Valencian Government, the socialist Ximo Puig, has eluded the appearance that María José Catalá, on behalf of the PP, had requested. The objective of the PP initiative was for Puig to respond to various questions related to the management of juvenile centers and those 175 complaints. But Puig, in the case of the abuse of minors under guardianship and despite being the highest authority of the Valencian Government, continues to hide behind Oltra.

Puig’s appearance had been requested by the Popular Party through a formal request. They wanted the President of the Valencian Government to speak of the sexual abuse of minors under the guardianship of the Government that Puig himself presides over. About two hours after presenting his petition, the PP suspected that Puig would not appear. It was when Oltra in turn presented a request to speak in the Courts about the resolution of the complaint of the Valencian ombudsman about the centers for minors. That is to say, the complaint that surfaced the 175 complaints to minors under guardianship from June 2020 to June 2021. Similar, but not the same.

And, indeed, the suspicion of the PP was not misguided. Puig will not appear and, therefore, will not have to talk about the various issues in relation to the abuse of minors protected by his Government that the PP raised. Yes, Oltra will. The PP continues to think that the appearances are different and complementary and that Puig has eluded his responsibility as president of the Valencian Government by not going to the Valencian Courts to speak about this issue.

Today, in line with that decision, the trustee spokesman for the Socialists in the Valencian Cortes Manuel Mata has defended Oltra. And he has said that if Puig was not happy with his work he would have already stopped it. Also, Podemos, through its spokesperson Pilar Lima, has come out in defense of Oltra. However, the Opposition has been very forceful in its position regarding the vice president. Ana Vega, spokesperson for Vox, has wondered if Oltra does not have “any kind of dignity or shame”. And he explained that one day after another the scandals related to the management of the centers for minors in the Valencian Community occur: “Minors cannot be in charge of a person who, obviously, does not fulfill their functions,” he said. .
