In video, Weintraub recalls controversies and announces return to Brazil on January 15

Former Minister of Education stated that he returns to the country ‘to fight’ and to contest the government of São Paulo in the next elections; he was in the United States holding an executive position on the World Bank Board

Former Minister of Education Abraham Weintraub announced that he will return to Brazil on January 15th. he is in U.S since June 2020, when he left the Ministry of Education in the midst of criticism. In a video posted on the social network, Weintraub recalls a controversial moment. “For me, I would put all these bums in jail”, he said during a ministerial meeting in which he defended the arrest of the ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The video also criticizes the restrictive measures adopted by the government of São Paulo during the pandemic and the former minister says he is returning to Brazil “to fight”. “Tin a game that is played here, but I didn’t come to play the game, I came to fight”, he stated in the recording.

Abraham Weintraub ends in 2022 a term as executive of the World Bank Council, a position to which he was appointed by President Jair Bolsonaro after leaving the Ministry of Education. Now, the former minister wants to run for the São Paulo government in the next elections. In addition to the attack on the STF, Weintraub also starred in other controversial episodes, such as the time he said that the Covid-19 it would have been created in a laboratory to favor China, which caused discomfort in the Brazil-Beijing relationship.
