The inauguration ceremony was attended by Venezuelan Nicolás Maduro and Cuban Miguel Díaz-Canel
The politician Daniel Ortega, 76 years old, took office for his fourth consecutive term, lasting five years, as president of the Nicaragua. The ceremony took place this Monday, 10, in Managua, with the presence of the Venezuelan Nicolas Maduro and the Cuban Miguel Diaz-Canel. The politician was accompanied by his wife, Rosario Murillo. At the same time, the United States and the European Union announced new sanctions on Nicaraguan government officials, family members of the president and institutions in Nicaragua. Daniel Ortega was reelected on November 8 of last year, with 74.99% of the votes. However, in general, some countries were already criticizing the re-election, considered undemocratic, since the politician had seven pre-candidates arrested on the charge of “betrayal to the motherland” and closed opposition parties.
