Claudia Pechstein (49) for the eighth (!) time at the Olympics

Pechstein will participate in the mass start in China, together with compatriot Michelle Uhrig (25).

The German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB) announced on Tuesday which twenty winter athletes are allowed to go to the Games. Those are skaters, figure skaters and tobogganers. Tobogganist Felix Loch is also in that first selection, the previous winner of three Olympic golds. The rest of the group will be announced next week. About 150 German athletes took part in the previous Winter Games.

Pechstein is a five-time Olympic champion. Selected skaters for the men are Patrick Beckert (5 and 10 kilometers), Joel Dufter (500 and 1000 meters) and Felix Rijhnen (5 kilometers / mass start). The Games start on February 4.
