Newcastle new owners are taking action on the January transfer market as they try to keep the club in the Premier League.
The Saudi-led group are showing their financial strength and have already added Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier for £ 25million.
Howe has already added Trippier to his Newcastle squad
His debut did not go quite as planned, as Eddie Howe’s side lost 1-0 to Cambridge in the FA Cup third round.
Trippier’s decision will likely be the first of a number of entries for the Northeastern club as he seeks to preserve Premier League status.
talkSPORT understands Chris Wood is expected to undergo a medical exam at Newcastle before relegation rivals Burnley leave.
Wood has scored double-digit goals in the Premier League over the past four seasons. His move would both weaken Sean Dyche’s side while adding more goals in Callum Wilson’s absence.
Wood appears to be Newcastle’s second signing from the January transfer window
Another defender will also likely be on Howe’s wishlist with talks with Lille underway for Dutch center-back Sven Botman.
talkSPORT understands the player wants to move to the North East, but he would likely have to pay more than his £ 40million record club fee he paid for Joelinton in 2019.
Newcastle have also been linked with a transfer of former Manchester United and Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini.
Botman, 21, would like social media posts linking him to Newcastle
The Belgian midfielder is currently playing for Chinese squad Shandong Luneng and is also attracting interest from clubs in Dubai, Qatar and Turkey.
Here’s how Howe’s team could line up if all the targets come together.
How Newcastle could line up if they hit their January targets
Chris Wood would be spearheading the attack in Wilson’s absence, having scored 53 Premier League goals since joining Burnley in 2017.
Saint-Maximin, who has four Premier League goals and three assists this season, has been their star this season playing on the left.
Joelinton has impressed in recent midfield games alongside Jonjo Shelvey and Marouane Fellaini could fit in alongside them.
Fellaini left Man United to join Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng in January 2019
Miguel Almiron has played on the right for Newcastle many times this season, with Ryan Fraser also on option.
Trippier immediately became the premier right-back after signing and Botman would likely go straight to the side alongside Jamal Lascelles and Javier Manquillo.
