122 hectares of industrial land on both sides of the wash in the Aridane Valley

The recovery of an industrial estate in the Aridane Valley is one of the issues that most worries businessmen, a minority sector on La Palma, which before the eruption had 18 different locations on the island map, but with little development .

The strategic plan that aims to establish a roadmap for the recovery of the Aridane Valley after the devastation of the volcano now contemplates not only the replacement of the now-defunct Callejón de la Gata, whose industrial lands were reached by the wash on October 11 last at midday. From the Cabildo, through the area of Territorial Policy and Innovation, in a work team with the municipal architects of the municipalities affected by the volcano and the public company Gesplan, they have arranged a forecast of 122.73 hectares of industrial land, that yes, divided into two large spaces, to the north and south of the great volcanic lava flow, with a width of more than three kilometers. This approach, which is part of a working document that is completed with a jetty to the north of the nucleus of La Bombilla and a protection dam for the area, is divided into a large industrial area of 80 hectares in what is known as Recta de Padrón, between the municipality’s soccer field and the place called Hoyas Hondas. The other large industrial zone, in the southern zone of the colada, would have an area of 42.73 hectares.

The intention of the Spatial Planning area is to achieve spaces that have a strategic character for La Palma, with the aim of creating the conditions so that they can recover, not only the companies that have seen their activity conditioned or disappeared, but also the implantation of new ones. business initiatives.
While this great project is materializing, within the framework of more than 50 actions of different nature, the Ministry of Industry of the Government of the Canary Islands granted a direct subsidy to the City Council of Los Llanos de Aridane for the drafting of the urbanization project of the industrial sector Las Rosas .

The intention is to respond to the need for industrial land for companies affected by the eruption of the volcano and compensate for the loss of the industrial zone of the municipality. This direct aid amounts to 146,580 euros.

Thanks to this item from the General Directorate of Industry, the first step can be taken to project developable land that, later, can be built and equipped with the necessary infrastructures to house new industries, but also to favor the development of existing ones. with the new services, due to the rehabilitation of the polygon where they will be located, a key aspect that will promote the development of industrial activity.

The Master Plan identifies 33 industrial areas on the island with a global surface area of 5,396,300 square meters, of which 649,764 are occupied. Specifically, there are 163 plots with activity on La Palma, in which there are 169 companies installed. Before the volcanic eruption and the loss of the industrial development of Callejón de la Gata and its 49,140 square meters, there were 175 industrial plots and 181 companies, 12 more than at present.

The Industry area of the Government of the Canary Islands has recently resolved the granting of subsidies for the regeneration and revitalization of industrial areas for 2021, with support for three projects in La Palma.
