A week began with extreme heat temperatures and in this context, in addition to suspending administrative, sports and cultural activities, different specialists recommended taking special precaution with older adults and sick people.
According to the data provided by the local Hydrometeorology Directorate, today began “an extreme heat wave event that will last all week, with maximum temperature values expected to range between 35 ° C and 40 ° C.”
The National Meteorological Service forecast 34º of maximum for this Monday and a somewhat cloudy sky. For tomorrow, the temperature will oscillate between 23º and 38º, while on Wednesday it will go from 19º to 31º. Thursday and Friday will be the toughest days as peaks of 39º and 40º are expected, respectively.
Faced with this situation, the Commune issued a series of preventive measures to the neighbors.
Given such a prognosis, extreme care was requested with infants, children, the elderly and sick people. In this sense, it is recommended to drink plenty of water during the day and consume fresh food, such as fruits and vegetables, and at regular intervals.
It was also urged to use sunscreen and stay out of the sun between 10 am and 4 pm. If you do, wear caps or hats, loose, light and light-colored clothing that covers as much skin as possible. In addition, it was suggested to avoid the consumption of sugary, alcoholic beverages and hot infusions.
The Secretary of Health of the Commune, Enrique Rifourcat explained that “for the youngest, it is important to hydrate continuously, especially with natural juices and, in the case of infants, offer the breast more frequently and keep them in places cool and ventilated ”.
Other options for children and newborns are to bathe and wet them frequently; dress them in loose and light clothing; avoid exposing them to the sun, especially at midday, and never stay with them in a parked or closed vehicle.
Among other suggestions for the next few days, it was asked to remain permanently in contact with relatives or elderly neighbors who live alone, to remind them of the aforementioned preventive measures.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Hydrometeorology detailed through its social networks the neighborhoods of the City and the peaks they had during this afternoon:
“DO NOT SATURATE RESOURCES”
In another order, emphasis was placed on making a responsible and rational use of electricity and water, in order not to saturate resources in the face of this climate context.
In this way, it was requested to put the air at 24 ° C and only during the hottest hours; use the fan, as it consumes 10 times less energy than air conditioning; turn off the lights in environments that are not being used; and unplug appliances or chargers while not in use.
Together, it was requested to avoid unnecessary or excessive consumption of water and it was requested not to use drinking water for irrigation or to wash the car with a hose, since this intensive use causes other neighbors to suffer low pressure or directly, they run out of water in their addresses.
It should be noted that the operating hours of the Republic of Children and the Ecological Park were extended, suspending physical activity between 10 and 18.
