In Kazakhstan, clashes erupted between police and protesters over rising fuel prices. Clashes were recorded in Almaty, Taraz, Aktau and other cities. In Atyrau, protesters surrounded Governor Makhambet Dosmukhambetov who had come out to them and did not allow him to leave. Several hundred people were detained in Astana, including Darkhan Umirbekov, a journalist for the Kazakh version of Radio Liberty. Several thousand protesters took to the streets in Almaty, there are also detainees there. One of them is the head of the unregistered Democratic Party of Kazakhstan, Zhanbolat Mamai.
