Apple has us already used to hiding some functionalities in its updates to software. One of them is the function for play background sounds, a novelty that came along with the launch of iOS 15 in Spain, and that can be activated very easily.

This is a hidden function within the accessibility section of our iPhone or iPad, and it is used to reproduce up to 6 types of sound: rain, ocean, stream, white noise, brown noise and pink noise. But why do we want these noises to sound?

According to Apple itself, these sounds serve to camouflage ambient noise playing soothing sounds. The idea is to use them with headphones, like the AirPods, but we can use them through the speaker of the smartphone and thus reproduce them all the time, no matter what application we are in.

The reproduction of sounds does not require any type of additional application, and can be activated from the settings. We will have to go to the settings of our iPhone or iPad, go to the Accessibility section, then to the Audio / Visual section and then activate background sounds. And no, you will not have to activate these sounds by following this process all the time.

Once we do, we can activate it from the iPhone Control Center (that is, the shortcut menu of iOS and iPadOS). First, you will have to follow the steps that we have given below in order to add them to your Control Center.

Once done, you can go to the Control Center option and add to your list of options that of Hearing. This option will not only serve to ‘monitor’ the volume level of the audio you are listening to, but by entering it we can make use of the ‘Live Listen’ function with our AirPods and reproduce the background sounds.

Entering from this option in the Control Center we can regulate the volume of the sound that we want to activate, and we can deactivate it by touching the button below, which says ‘Background sounds’. Once we activate it, the background sound will not stop playing until we deactivate it, and it will ring throughout the system.

This option appears directly if we are using some Apple AirPods, regardless of whether it is the AirPods Pro or AirPods Max in the sound management menu of the Control Center. And again, it will not be necessary to install anything else, although if we want a wider variety of sounds, we may have to resort to third-party applications.
