HBO Max is already in Spain and for its great landing it has launched its first Spanish series called ‘Todo lo otro’. Starring, written and directed by April Zamora —Actress that you have been able to see in ‘Vis a vis’ and who has recently co-created ‘Señoras del (h) AMPA’ for Telecinco—, tells the story of Dafne and her group of friends in the face of professional, love, social problems … that they meet once they are 30.
In this new project for television, which consists of eight half-hour episodes (the first two are already available), the protagonist is a transsexual woman, but that, as Abril herself indicates, is not the axis of the fiction because it is not even for herself in her day-to-day life. In this interview that he has granted us exclusively, he dismantles through our questions what is his great audiovisual project to date.
The secrets of the project
After explaining how the process of the series has been, telling us that the initial pilot was re-recorded, that he has always been interested in personal conflicts and why the fiction is called that, he explains that, although he did not want it to be an autobiographical story, in the end he couldn’t help it: “There are many things of mine, not in terms of the plot, but in the way the character reacts or places through which she travels. When I was acting, not creating the series, I realized that it was something very personal, very own. ”
“As the transsexuality It is so normalized in me that I do not wonder if I am doing something pioneering in our country. I didn’t want to do a series about a trans character, I did a series for myself, which is also trans. It is not something relevant in my life and sometimes it seems boring to me. It is important to talk about it to send a message of tolerance, visibility and normalization, but to me, who am the messenger of this message, it is not such a relevant feature in my life. But we are in the year 2021 and we cannot pretend that it is a fairy tale and that everyone is wearing it normally. And more in the moment that we are living “, the artist and creator confesses to us on this issue.

And, among many other things, such as the illusion that a second season can be developed, she is sincere about the critics that you can receive from the result: “I’m not prepared at all, I panic. I try to look a little, but there is always something inside of you wanting to look at what is said … And, as always, it is not very positive, because people on the networks are very destructive thanks to the anonymity they give them. In the end, we are people and the insults affect you. ”
This is ‘Everything else’
Zamora has created this very personal story, in which she plays Dafne, the protagonist of ‘Todo el otro’. Dafne has a shitty job, her boyfriend just left her and to top it off, she’s going to find out that she’s terribly in love with her best friend, a demotivated Asturian played by Juan Blanco. David Matarín, Nuria Herrero, Andrea Guasch, María Maroto, Bea de la Cruz, Marta Belenguer, Pepe Lorente and Raúl Mérida complete the main cast, which also includes Miguel Bernardeau and Alberto Casado.
