Argentine Diego Schwartzman advanced to the ATP 250 final in Antwerp, Belgium, after beating American Jenson Brooksby 6-4 6-0.
The Peque, located in 14th place in the world ranking and second seed of the tournament, beat Brooksby (70) in 1 hour and 25 minutes of play and in the final will face the Italian Jannik Sinner (13 in the ranking and top seed). The game will start at 11:30 (Argentina time)
The ‘Peque’, who had just eliminated the Scotsman Andy Murray, former world number 1, in the round of 16, never met Sinner on the official circuit. The 29-year-old Argentine will seek his fifth ATP title today – and the second of the year – after his conquests in Istanbul 2016, Rio de Janeiro 2018, Los Cabos 2019 and Buenos Aires 2021.
The 20-year-old Italian Sinner beat South African Lloyds Harris (32) in his semifinal yesterday 6-2 and 6-2 and today he will also try to achieve his fifth trophy after winning the Sofia 2020 and 2021 tournament twice; Washington and Melbourne (both this year). The ATP of Antwerp takes place on hard surface courts and will distribute prizes for 584,125 euros.
