The accident involving American actor Alec Baldwin is not the first of its kind in the film industry. Cases like that of the actor, who during a shoot he killed one person and injured another by firing a pistol that was supposed to be a blank, they refer to similar ones.

Brandon Lee

Perhaps the most remembered is that of Brandon Lee, American model and actor, son of martial arts myth Bruce Lee. On March 31, 1993, Brandon was filming the movie “El Cuervo” when he was wounded by an 11-millimeter bullet fired from a pistol that must have been loaded with blank.

What was said was that the accident occurred due to an error in the handling of real cartridges used in the filming due to lack of budget. Eventually the film was edited and finished with the reconstruction of Lee’s images in various scenes and was a box office success.

Johann Ofner

The most recent event of this type occurred just four years ago. It was in January 2017 the victim was a 28-year-old actor named Johann Ofner. He was recording a music video for the Australian hip-hop band Bliss N Eso, in a bar in the city of Brisbane, located in the northwest of the country.

One part of the story included handling a weapon. The actors and crew had performed a dress rehearsal for the shooting sequences but had not tested the firearms. The investigation later found that they were loaded with illegal ammunition.

Jon-Erik Hexum

Another of the most resonant cases at the time was that of the American actor Jon-Erik Hexum, star of the 1980s series “Male Model,” alongside actress Jennifer O’Neil. The program in which an undercover investigator was a model was a success since its broadcast, but during the recording of the seventh chapter, the misfortune occurred.

Hexum was joking with a blank pistol and shot himself in the temple. But the effect of the explosion after being shot at such a close range pierced his skull. Some bone fragments damaged his brain and he agonized for several days until he died on October 18, 1984.
