Jackson Martinez’s life has taken a drastic and unconventional turn. The Colombian, who became one of the best strikers in Europe, spent several years accommodated in the elite of football. However, after his retirement, Jackson has taken a new path in his life: music about religion.
The Colombian, born in 1986, started his career in Independiente de Medellín. Despite being part of the first team since 2004, Martínez did not explode until 2008. The forward began to be fixed in the national team, led his team to win the national championship, and despite having an agreement to play in the South Korean league, ended up signing for the Mexican Chiapas Jaguares in 2010.
The good level shown in Mexico caught the attention of European clubs, and finally Jackson signed in 2012 with Porto in exchange for 11 million dollars. In 143 games with the Portuguese, he scored 92 goals, and lifted two national Super Cups and one League, also being the league’s top scorer for three years in a row. He was also one of the most prominent of the Colombian team at the 2014 World Cup, when they reached the quarterfinals. In the tournament, Jackson scored two targets.
Already in 2015, Atlético de Madrid paid 35 million euros for him, hoping that Jackson would become their main attacking reference. However, he never got to adapt to the mattress team, and barely participated in 22 games in which he scored 3 goals. A year later, he left Atleti for 42 million to play for Guangzhou Evergrande. Injuries prevented him from performing, and two years later he arrived at the Portuguese Portimonense, where he played his last two seasons as a professional.
Music and God as salvation
After announcing his retirement in December 2020, Jackson began to focus on God and his family, and discovered his new passion: music. The Colombian has released a large number of singles, with titles such as ‘I will bless your name’, ‘Listen’, ‘Decisions’ and ‘Because only you’, all dealing with faith. Now, Martínez presents an album, called ‘I will not fear’, with an outstanding song, ‘The 2 doors’, which talks about a part of the Bible.
Now, in the Colombian program ‘I know everything’, Jackson has explained the life he led, and how God took it upon himself to redirect it. “I had a life of lust and joy in sins, I enjoyed sinning because I didn’t see it that way, I saw it normal like everyone else does. You are not going to see God as your everything until he is the only thing you have, so I made the decision to focus on him. “
Bad company is one of the main elements that Jackson has changed in his new life. “In my case, I began to feel that some friendships With whom I used to go partying to have a drink … they surrounded me with alcohol, cigarettes and many other things as well, “he says about his past.
Luckily for him, Jackson says that he is now happy and that he has found the right path in life, focused on his family and on music about God.
