With not too many opportunities for the pure sprinters, a cobblestone stage and puncher stages, the Tour course seems favorable for Wout van Aert’s green jersey opportunities.
How do they view Wout van Aert’s possible green ambitions at his Jumbo-Visma team?
“If Wout says that he wants to go green this year, we will see if and how we can fill that in,” says team boss Richard Plugge.
“But that decision has yet to be made. We are now evaluating this season.”
“Soon we will start individual conversations with the riders, who can then express their wishes. Does Wout want to go for the green jersey? And does that fit into the bigger picture? We will talk about that in those conversations.”
That bigger picture is winning the Tour de France. “That’s the big team goal,” says Plugge. “We want the yellow jersey in Paris.”
Plugge also looked back at Van Aert’s last Tour. “Even though Wout did not win the green jersey this year, he still rode a fantastic Tour.”
“The stages he won and the way he rode were great. He was also of service to the team, it was fantastic what he did in the Tour. Wout is an all-rounder.”
