On Thursday evening, athletes and the team of the year 2021 will be honored at the LOTTERIEN Sporthilfe gala.
Before we found out who the sports journalists had chosen, we asked you, our users, about your favorites. In some cases the results are more than clear, in some cases they are wafer-thin. We have summarized them for you – but first of all the nominees in the three main categories:
The top three winners in the categories of female, male and female athletes of the year 2021 in alphabetical order:
Sportswoman of the year: Lisa Hauser (biathlon), Anna Kiesenhofer (cycling), Katharina Liensberger (alpine skiing)
Sportsman of the year: Vincent Kriechmayr (alpine skiing), Jakob Schubert (climbing), Lukas Weißhaidinger (athletics)
Team of the year: Johannes Lamparter / Lukas Greiderer (Nordic Combined), Austrian Ski Jumping Women’s Team (Daniela Iraschko-Stolz, Sophie Sorschag, Chiara Kreuzer, Marita Kramer), RB Salzburg (soccer)
Here is YOUR choice of Athlete of the Year:
Sportswoman of the year: Lisa Hauser (biathlon)
A wafer-thin and somewhat surprising decision! Lisa Hauser (35.26 percent) won 26 votes more, ahead of sensational Olympic champion Anna Kiesenhofer (33.53 percent) and ski ace Katharina Liensberger (31.21 percent).
Last winter, Hauser achieved the greatest success of a domestic biathlete to date with the world championship title in the mass start. In addition, the Tyrolean won World Cup silver in the pursuit and in the mixed relay as well as fourth place in the World Cup singles. After a strong World Cup season, in which the first victory was achieved, Hauser also took the overall victory in the individual World Cup.
A biathlete has never won the election, which has been held since 1949.

Sportsman of the year: Vincent Kriechmayr (Alpine skiing)
For the men, the choice is much clearer, Vincent Kriechmayr with 58.93 percent clearly takes the crown in front of the two Olympic bronzes Jakob Schubert (21.79 percent) and Lukas Weißhaidinger (19.28 percent).
The Upper Austrian drove the best season of his career so far last winter, which he crowned with double gold in downhill and super-G at the World Ski Championships in Cortina in February. In the World Cup, Kriechmayr celebrated three victories, including the Super-G in Kitzbühel, and thus won the small crystal ball in the Super-G.
After a year break by tennis ace Dominic Thiem, Kriechmayr would continue the successful series of alpine skiers thanks to Marcel Hirscher.
Team of the year: RB Salzburg (soccer / men)
The election for Team of the Year is also close to the point. Ultimately, the FC Red Bull Salzburg kickers prevailed with 38.43 percent, ahead of the Nordic combined athletes Johannes Lamparter / Lukas Greiderer (35.95 percent), world champions in the team sprint. The gold-plated ÖSV women’s ski jumping team took third place (25.62 percent).
In addition to their eighth Bundesliga title and the cup victory, Salzburg’s champions have also made it into the Champions League.
The “cops” are preparing for the fourth win in the series of athletes.
