The Russian Foreign Ministry called on to prevent a repetition of the tragedy of 1945, when nuclear weapons were used by the United States against Japanese cities

TBILISI, Oct. 14 – Sputnik. Russia calls on all nuclear powers to confirm the postulate that there will be no winners in a nuclear war and that it should never be unleashed, the deputy head of the Russian delegation to the UN General Assembly First Committee Konstantin Vorontsov said in a statement. RIA Novosti writes about it.

“The Russian Federation has consistently advocated the reaffirmation by all nuclear powers of the fundamental formula that there can be no winners in a nuclear war, and it should never be unleashed,” Vorontsov said.

He recalled that the first important steps in this context have already been taken.

“This postulate was confirmed in the joint statement of Presidents Vladimir Putin and Joe Biden on June 16, 2021. Russia and China included it in the Joint Statement of June 29, timed to coincide with the twentieth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation between our countries. We call on the other states, possessing nuclear weapons, follow our example, “- said the diplomat.

According to him, Russia is ready to discuss the idea of creating multilateral negotiation formats on the prevention of an arms race, and forcing someone to participate is counterproductive.

The diplomat also invited the UN member states to commit themselves not to use space objects to destroy any targets on Earth, in the air and in space.
